It is a glass coating chemically bonded to steel at high temperatures around 850 degrees celsius. The undercoat is sprayed onto steel and fired in a Vitreous Enameling furnace to form a permanent bond with the steell base. Depending on surface requirements cover coat may be applied.
  I) Metal Fabrication & Forming
Sheet steel for Vitreous Enameling must confirm to the Enameling standards (ASTM Designation A424 Quality type 1, 2, 3 or other equivalent standard) .
All fabrication and welding shall be performed prior to application of the ceramic coating. Jobs shall be formed in shape & size in accordance with approved drawings with allowable tolerances.
II) Frit Preparation
Each mill of enamel must be checked for proper fineness and color with the necessary adjustments being made prior to unloading OR Powder frit may be used.
III) Processing
Job shall be thoroughly cleaned, degreased, etched and neutralized. Vitreous Enamel coating shall be applied to all required areas on such job by spray application, dipping or electrostatic wet or dry application.
All jobs shall be fired at approximately 800 to 850 degrees celsius in a furnace so as to properly fuse Vitreous Enamel to the metal and to ensure color uniformity.
IV) Surface Appearance
Vitreous Enamel on all exposed surfaces shall be free of blemishes in the coating that may impair the serviceability or detract from the general appearance of the job.
V) Colors
Color of the jobs shall match approved sample within an error tolerance.
  Vitrified Steel

Their excellent hardness makes them difficult to scratch and highly resistant to abrasion.
Corrosion Resistance:
Vitreous Enamel provides corrosion protection, which is stable over time; it prevents oxidation both at high temperatures and in humid atmospheres.`
Resistance To Atmospheric Agents:
Not affected by ultraviolet radiation, artificial light or sunlight and other atmospheric effects. Colors do not fade over time.
Chemical Resistance:
Not affected by detergents or organic solvents. Also highly resistant to most acids.
Resistance to chemicals means that paint, graffiti and stains can be cleaned with detergents or solvents.
The surface of vitrified steel is particularly hard and smooth. Its lack of porosity means that it cannot absorb dust, oil, grease, etc. It will not allow any mould to develop.
Fire And Temperature Resistance:
The high grade of the steel means that it does not deteriorate as a result of temperature changes, and remains stable between -50º and 450º C. It is completely incombustible.
